When you choose Shreveport Eye Clinic for your eye care, you can rest assured that you are in the best possible hands. Our experienced ophthalmologists offer a full spectrum of eye care services from comprehensive eye exams and vision prescriptions to diagnosing and treating a wide range of eye diseases.
While you may think you only need to see an optometrist for an eye glass or contact lens prescription, seeing a more highly trained physician can ensure you are fully assessed for a potential eye disorder. Click the links below to learn more about the eye care services our doctors provide.
Unlike an optician, an ophthalmologist is an MD, medical doctor, who has received specialized training in the anatomy, functioning and disorders of the eye. This type of eye doctor completed four years of medical school and a one-year internship prior to undertaking a three-year minimum residency in ophthalmology. In their training, these doctors get hands-on experience in every element of eye and vision care: prevention, treatment and management. In addition, an ophthalmologist may also spend a few years being trained in a specialty area such as cornea, retina or plastic surgery.
The major difference between ophthalmologists and other eye specialists like optometrists or opticians is the level of complexity in what they can diagnose and treat. Because ophthalmologists are MDs who specialize in vision and eye care, they are more capable of handling serious diseases, dysfunction or injuries of the eye.
